Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District
Downtown Champaign is served by the award winning Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District. The system is centered in Downtown Champaign with the Illinois Terminal serving as the community hub for all bus service. Frequent service runs all day and night, seven days a week and can get you to and from all corners of Champaign, Urbana and University of Illinois. Many routes serve Downtown Champaign, including the Green, Gold, or Yellow Hoppers which operate every 15 minutes when the University of Illinois is in session.
Riding the MTD couldn’t be easier. All University of Illinois Faculty and Staff ride free while standard fare is $1.00 each way or 1 token, year passes are $60. Exact change is needed after 7:00 pm. Tokens can also be purchased from the bus driver before 7:00 pm at a discounted rate of 6 tokens for $5.00. Board at any intersection where it is safe for the bus to pull to the curb.
To make riding the bus even easier, the MTD offers several tools to assist you. MTD Customer Service operators are available at (217) 384-8188 anytime buses are operating to answer your questions. The MTD website, www.cumtd.com, has route maps and schedules for all MTD services, and you can plan a trip using your starting and ending points with STOPwatch.journey. The MTD’s STOPwatch system provides real-time bus location information systems at any time. Access the date on the website, text a stop’s unique identifying code and instantly receive next-bus service information, or you can download the Yahoo Widget application. This application allows you to have real time bus data from any laptop or computer making it easy to catch the next bus on time.
