Hearts for Haiti at Class Act

WHEN: Saturday March 6th 2010 from 3pm to 6pm
WHERE: Class Act building 114 South Neil Street Champaign
The Red Cross will be at this event and through them, 100% of all the proceeds will go to Haiti. The venue has been donated by Class Act and local businesses are donating services and products for a raffle.
For the performances, we have CU Theatresports Comedy Improv, Mordechai in the Mirror, Ryan Groff from Elsinore, and Duke of Uke playing. You can click on the links under The Entertainment section of this page to find out more about these bands!
All equipment to make this event possible is being donated by the CV Lloyde Music store in Downtown Champaign.
This event is completely free but donations will be accepted at the door.

New CDA Committee Structure

Following the Tuesday, February 23rd board meeting of the CDA, a new committee structure to better suit the needs of the members and the community has been put into place. The new committees and chairs are as follows.
Finance Committee- Chris Ehley
Working towards a sustainable budget and financial plan.
Communication Committee- Don Elmore & Carol Timms
Bettering communication with the community and members with an e-newsletter and researching website options.
Outreach Committee- Amy George & Karen Foster
Communicate and engage with community partners about existing opportunities for downtown businesses.
Partnership Committee- Mike Royse & Sonya Darter
Establish partnerships in Champaign- Urbana and work closely to develop value in these partnerships.
Membership Committee- Jan Kijowski
Welcome each new business as well as host events and get togethers for face-to-face contact with each member business.
Urban Environment Committee- Douglas L. Milburn
Works on projects related to the aesthetics and “environment” of Downtown.
Executive Committee- Trisha Bates
Establish and operate organization’s management structure.

The Orpheum Children’s Science Museum will be hosting an Alice in Wonderland themed exhibit in conjunction with upcoming release of Alice in Wonderland. For more information visit their website.

Honor Yesterday. A Historical Tribute
March 19-April 7, 2010:
From the founding of Champaign to the 150 year tribute, a historical exhibit will chronicle Champaign’s story through magnificent narratives and artifacts. The 3-week exhibit is open to the public and provides group tours for schools, civic groups, churches, service clubs, and others. The exhibit is begin held at the CityView at the Illinois Terminal, 45 East University Ave.
- Monday-Friday: 8-1pm Group Hours, 4-8pm Public Hours
- Saturday: 10-5pm Public Hours
- Sunday: 1-5pm Public Hours
Celebrate Today. Champaign Music Festival
July 9 & 10, 2010:
A birthday salute to our community’s success will play out in this downtown Champaign Music Festival weekend celebration. Join us as we celebrate with great music during a music crawl through Downtown Champaign on Friday night and then enjoy musical acts on three entertainment stages on Saturday.

Build Tomorrow. A Legacy Dedication

A gift to future residents of Champaign, a legacy project celebration culminates the year’s events. This celebration, held at the Historic Virginia Theatre and Downtown Plaza, includes attendance of elected state officials, a time capsule dedication, legacy fountain ceremony, and an art exhibit by Champaign youth.

Attention animal lovers—the Orpheum has a new exhibit just for you! Their new veterinary clinic and animal care center will focus on teaching proper pet care and encourage compassion and respect toward all living creatures. Children will enjoy learning about keeping animals healthy and happy. This exhibit is sure to inspire an interest in veterinary medicine and create a better understanding of the scientific principles of the field. Members only opening on February 19, 6-8 p.m. Grand opening on February 20, 1:30 p.m. (ribbon cutting)-5 p.m.
Children, please bring your favorite stuffed animal for a check up at the opening events!
This exhibit celebrates a community of partners to further Veterinary Science including: The Neitzel Family, U of I College of Veterinary Medicine, Orange Krush, and The CARE Center! Educational support from: Champaign County Humane Society , Teachers for Creatures, and Canine Connections.
